The Lady Titans JV Basketball team defeated the Washington Hatchets
The Lady Titans JV Basketball team defeated the Washington Hatchets on Saturday, January 18. The Titans won 51-31, pushing their record to 14-2. The Lady Titans started off the day with a ten point first quarter. However, the Hatchets responded and took the lead with a twelve point first quarter. But, it was all the Lady Titans from there. The Lady Titans scored twenty in the second quarter, while the hatchets only scored seven. The Titans would go into half time up 30-19. The Titans come out of halftime with the same energy, scoring seventeen in the third quarter, with the hatchets only scoring seven.” 37-14 was the score in the middle two quarters and was the difference in the game,” head coach Rusty Reeves said.
The game would end with single digit scoring in the fourth quarter, with the Titans running the clock out in the end. Laynie Graham led the team with 17 points while Kyra Menke added 11.
“It’s always fun to play a good team that’s well-coached,” Reeves said. “Defensively, we just get after it and are always in a position to help our teammates out. Offensively, we shot the ball well and are very unselfish with the ball.”
Reeves thinks the team is getting more comfortable with the game.
“We have gotten more comfortable running the offense and getting better shots as the season has gone on,” Reeves said. “I would say the girls are playing with more confidence now than earlier in the year.”
The Titans do have things to improve and continue to work on them.
“We are not the best free throw shooting team,” sophomore Loren Stoll said. “This cost us in one of our losses, so we are focusing on that in practice as the season winds down.”
The Lady Titans look to add another win, as they play Heritage Hills in a conference game Tuesday night.
