PAC Conference Swimming Championship Finals
At the PAC Conference Swimming Championship Finals, which was held Saturday at Tecumseh, the Lady Titans finished in 3rd place as a team, improving upon their 6th place finish in 2019.
The Titan Boys placed 4th as a team, just one point shy of a 3rd place finish. They placed 4th in 2019 as well.
The meet featured 4 school records and an individual PAC Champion, with freshman Ruth Mercer winning the 200 Freestyle for the Lady Titans.
“For us to finish as a team in fourth place is really fantastic,” Titan head coach Kasey Knaebel said. “It shows how much we have improved and worked from last year.”
The Lady Titans were led by freshman Ruth Mercer who placed 1st in the 200 Freestyle and 2nd in the 500 Freestyle. Mercer smashed her school records in both events with a 2:11.45 in the 200 Free and a 5:54.60 in the 500 Free.
Junior Tierney Maurer also led the Lady Titans with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Breast and 4th in the 200 IM.
The 200 Free Relay team of junior Nicole Richter, junior Stephanie Cullom, freshman Allison Adler, and Maurer finished a close 2nd and again broke the record they set in prelims with a time of 1:51.66, dropping nearly 2 seconds.
“The girls on our team really brought their A game to the meet on Saturday,” said sophomore Colleen Schneider. “Everyone worked so hard and it really paid off in the end. I’m super proud of the girls.”
The Titans boys team was led by junior Logan McClain, who placed 3rd in the 500 Freestyle and 6th in the 200 IM.
Sophomore Griffin Mercer also placed 4th in the 200 Freestyle and 8th in the 100 Breast.
The 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relays of senior Cross Epperson, junior David Hirsch, sophomore Chris Spear, and Mercer finished 5th.
“I think the boys did really well in placing,” sophomore Erick Hirsch said. “I think Logan McClain really stepped up and placed well for us.”
The Titans and Lady Titans swim teams have their next matches on Thursday at Vincennes Lincoln High School.
“We are really looking to continue the success and momentum we have built heading into these final meets and sectionals,” Knaebel said. “Our sectional is really tough, but I think we have a good chance this year to get some of our swimmers to state.”
