As a four year varsity starter for the Gibson Southern Lady Titans basketball team, senior Chloey Graham made her commitment to Indiana Wesleyan University to continue her passion of playing basketball.
At a young age, Graham had a dream of going to college to play her favorite sport. Putting in so much work in the off-season and spending the majority of her time shooting a ball, all her work finally paid off.
“I like to compete, and I like to play, so my motivation is to get better and good enough to play in college games,” Graham said.
Indiana Wesleyan was always a top choice for Graham. As a Christian school, Graham was more persuaded into making her final choice to be Indiana Wesleyan.
“I picked it for the spiritual aspect; I really like what they do as a team and how they grow closer to God,” Graham said. “It would help me be better as a human and grow in that part, but also they are good at basketball, and I like that aspect.”
A role model in Graham’s basketball career has been her father. Her dad has always been a very important person, with him being her coach over many years and always pushing Graham to be her best.
“My dad has pretty much been my coach my whole life, and my travel coaches, but mainly my dad,” Graham said. “My mom and dad have sacrificed a ton for me to do what I can, like traveling for basketball.”
Another big part of Graham’s support system has been her school coaches, Kyle Brasher and Kelsie Linnewber. They have made sure to get her better and at her full potential for college level. Brasher and Linneweber have taken much time into getting her name to college coaches and making her well-known among collegiate programs.
“They have emailed and talked to many coaches trying to get my name out there and to get me into a good college,” Graham said. “They have also helped me during the season pushing me and telling me what I need to fix, encouraging me and telling me things I need to work on as a basketball player.”
All of Graham’s teammates have looked up to her, as she has impacted the team tremendously. She joined the 1000 point club last year and continues to grow her scoring this year.
“Chloey has helped me in so many ways, but I think the biggest way she has helped me is her ability to push me in practice,” said varsity starter and teammate junior Gabby Spink. “She has also helped the team by being committed to the game and continuously working on her game, even out of practice, to make sure she is being the best version of herself.”
Graham is thrilled to start her season next year at Indiana Wesleyan. Putting in all her effort her whole life has finally played off making it to be a college player.
“Little me would be so excited because she has been working at it her whole life,” Graham said.
