The thought of the end of my newspaper class career is very hard. Just thinking that it is going to be over within less than a week is hard for me to comprehend, as I will start a new journey of my life.
I was introduced to the class by a few of my friends my sophomore year when they took it the first semester and wanted me to join for the second semester. I never knew what it was going to be like, but I would gladly do it all over again if I could.
I was really shy when I first joined and only talked to Hayden Pennington, Cooper Maurer and Wyatt McEllhiney, until former newspaper Editor-in-Chief Peyton Henn brought me out of my comfort zone.
Over the next few semesters, I became a much stronger writer with all of my editors’ help and was surprised to hear my senior year that I was going to be the news editor.
It will be hard for me to know that I won’t be able to chat with everyone in that same room and create any more memories. For the two and a half years I have been in that class, it is safe to say that I think it was my favorite class the whole time. The freedom that you get along with the people that you share the room with will forever be the hardest to let go.
I originally started this class just so that I can get my fine arts credits out of the way instead of taking other classes such as tech theater or any art class. The class itself has changed a lot. When I first started, there were less than 15 people in the class and less than two years later the class has almost doubled. I am very grateful for the intentions that I brought to the class and how well we were as a whole class to produce “The Southerner” and increase readership. It was fun getting the work out that we put into the class and let others see what we could as reporters.
I just want to give one last thank you to Jared Grigsby. Everything he has done in and outside of class helps make me the person that I am today. You have been there for me since you first knew me many years ago, before I even had thoughts about my high school career.
Lastly, I just want to give one last thanks to all who have supported me throughout the years and helped me live a healthy life.
