My last four years at Gibson Southern have been nothing short of amazing. Of course, as with anything in life, there were plenty of lows, but all the highs made up for them ten fold. I have been so incredibly fortunate to have gotten to surround myself with so many friends, teachers and staff members that have made my time so wonderful.
It is a testament to how great this school is that I am even writing this column. Years ago, when I had no direction, no guidance, there were so many people immediately there for me to keep me pushing forward and trying new things. Now, my senior year, because of that push from people around me, I joined in on newspaper and have since had one of the greatest classes of my life.
There are so many people for me to thank for my time here. Vicki Kirkman for always being there as someone to talk to, whether I knew I needed it or not; Jon Adams for running such a great, welcoming facility and the entire office staff for being the heart and soul of Gibson Southern; the wonderful lunch ladies who kept me fed every single day; Adam Bledsoe, for introducing me to my passion for theatre and Jared Grigsby, for helping me along in both my freshman and senior years.
I do regret not being active in much outside of regular school until senior year. However, I am so happy that I did at least get this last year to get out some more. Between finally making it to football and basketball games, going to State in spell bowl and taking on an internship, senior year brought so many opportunities for which I am so grateful.
To any freshmen who happen to come across this, the best advice I can give is to simply keep going. Things will get rough, but tomorrow will come. Even the hardest of assignments, whether it feels like it or not, will pass.
To all of my friends – though we may be going our separate ways, please do not be a stranger. I will always be cheering for you, whether you are still here or moving on to another chapter.
Thank you, Gibson Southern High School, for giving me four unforgettable years, lessons for a lifetime and memories to be forever cherished.
Peace!
