The Lady Titan junior varsity volleyball team defeated the Wood Memorial Trojans in a two-set match on September 16. On the road, the girls secured the win with set scores of 25-12 and 25-18.
JV coach Paige Rohrer credited the team’s success to the tens of hours of practice and preparation, along with discipline. Tuesday’s win boosted the Titans’ record to 8-4 on the season,
and gave them a boost of confidence leading into the rest of the season. Their performance also showed the team’s potential.
As a first-year coach, Rohrer has already made a positive impact on the team. The team is confident with their coach’s leadership.
“We provide the girls with opportunities to connect outside of practices and games,” Rohrer said. “Each player is paired with a ‘big’ or ‘little’ sister, who writes encouraging notes and offers support throughout the season. It helps them build friendships and creates a positive team environment.”
The game against Wood Memorial helped the girls strengthen their bond.
“This win made us feel closer as a team,” sophomore volleyball player Addi Catt said.
Players said the match provided important lessons and gave them confidence for upcoming games.
“My learning experiences and strengths and weaknesses on the court will help me throughout the rest of the season,” sophomore libero Rigsby Traylor said. “There were definitely some things that we need to work on for the next game. When the pressure becomes intense, I stay focused on the next point, trust in myself, and rely on my teammates for support.”
Catt shared in Traylor’s opinion.
“This game has improved our need to never stop playing to our full potential,” she said.
The starting lineup against Wood Memorial’s game included Traylor, Catt, sophomore Cassie Spears, sophomore Kenley Arbuthnot, freshman Aubrey Habermel and sophomore Emma Church.
Gibson Southern’s JV volleyball upcoming schedule includes matchups against Mt. Carmel, Tecumseh, Evansville North, South Spencer, Mt. Vernon, Princeton, Vincennes Lincoln, Pike Central, and Forest Park.
