The Gibson Southern mens soccer team came up short against the 5-3 Washington Hatchets. The Hatchets traveled down to the Fort on September 16, hoping to remain first in the conference. The Titans wanted to take that spot but came up short, dropping the match 2-0.
The Titans came into the game with a 6–1 record, but the Hatchets were undefeated in the conference. However, the Titans might just get another shot at the Hatchets in Sectional play.
“If we face them again in Sectional play, we will be more ready to play them,” head coach Andrew Dunkel said. “It seemed like we were nervous from the start. We have to learn to play our game and not fall into playing the other team’s game.”
Despite the loss, there was some good that came out of it as well. The team’s focus was to stay positive and not dwell too long because in just a few days they would be back on the field.
“Me and my teammates stayed positive because of our coach, who told us we could learn from our mistakes and fix them for the next,” senior goalie Landon Elpers said.
“We stayed positive by just listening to what our coach had to say,” sophomore Isaac Neufelder said. “We are using it for motivation for the rest of the season. We are hoping to win all of the games in the rest of our season.”
The Titans will next face off against Pike Central where they hope to score another conference win.
