The Gibson Southern junior varsity football team continued its season, extending its record to 4-1 after a lopsided win against the Southridge Raiders. With their biggest margin of victory of the season, the Titans blanked Southridge 50-0.
The Titans overpowered the Raiders in all aspects of the game. Junior quarterback Caden Rochleau threw for one touchdown and rushed for two. He got the ball back in his hands quickly on several of the Raiders’ plays with five plus forced turnovers by the defense, with one being a fumble recovery.
“Our team’s game plan against Southridge was to just go out there and play to the best of our abilities,” Rochleau said. “We need to put all of the effort we can into being better than the team on the other side.”
With this team being an older team with multiple juniors on it, they look to be way more physical and try to power the teams they play.
“Our strength is definitely the defense,” coach Nick Hart said. “They have shut out four straight opponents. The offense has been playing really well as well. I do wish we were deeper on the offensive and defensive lines.”
The team is coming together during the middle of the season, and that is something Hart likes to see.
“I think the season has gone really well,” Hart said. “I don’t think we played as well as we could have in week one, but since then I think our guys have played at a really high level.”
While still being a good team, they still have goals they want to achieve.
“Our goal for the rest of the year is to keep holding teams to the least amount of points we can,” sophomore wide receiver Isaac Dill said. “Also, to score at a high level with two or more touchdowns per game, and try to hold the other team to one or no touchdowns per game.”
The Titans look to add another win on the season, hopefully finishing 8-1 for the year, with their next game at Heritage Hills on September 29 at 6:00 p.m.
