The Six Nations Championship winners announced

The Six Nations Championship is an annual international rugby union competition between the teams of England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The current champion is Wales, who won last year’s competition in the 2019 tournament.

The tournament kicked off on February 1. The first round fixtures were Wales against Italy, Ireland against Scotland and France against England. Wales defeated Italy 42 – 0 in the first game of the tournament.

In the second game of the tournament Ireland would take the game 19 – 12.  On February 2 France would take the last game on the first round 24 – 17 against England.

Rugby is not a famous passtime in the United states. However, it is one of the fastest growing sports in America. The United States has more than 33 million people either very interested or interested in the sport.

“The American public is starting to understand there is an alternative team sport and one that they can fall in love with,” USA Rugby coach Mike Friday said. “Sevens ticks all the boxes for them – power, pace, hand-eye, physical collisions, evasive skills, fast-moving, and the games are played thick and fast and that’s the adrenaline rush that the American sporting public love.”

In the first game, Wales would actually only hold forty nine percent of the possession, with Italy taking the other 51 percent.

In the second game, Ireland would take 54 percent of the possession compared to Scotland’s 46 percent possession. The last game would see France only holding forty three percent possession to Englands 57.

“I believe that a sport such as rugby has the possibility to be a big new sport,” junior Devin Murphy said. “We’ve seen it with lacrosse in recent years, why not with rugby,”
