Worth a watch: ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’
“Puss in Boots, The Last Wish,” is a Dreamworks animation film that hit theaters on December 21, 2022, just in time for the holidays. It has been 11 years since the adventurous cat had his first solo movie.
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” tackles heavy-hitting themes like mortality and trust. The characters are all racing to find the last wish, using a map that changes hands throughout the movie. Puss, the main character, aspires for this object more than anyone, and anything, although the antagonist of the movie is hunting him down.
The action scenes, plus the antagonist of the film, made this a thrilling and joyful movie to experience.
The highlight of this movie was the antagonist named Death. Death was a character that brought a sense of terror and mystery to a movie that is completely animated and filled with fairy tale characters. Every scene that Death was in was great; it brought focus and attention to whoever was watching the film, and in my opinion, carried the entire plot.
One thing about this movie that I believe they could have done a slightly better job at, was not introducing so many side characters that were practically irrelevant to the theme, plot and overall idea of the film.
Throughout the entirety of the movie, Puss continued to bring thrilling scenes due to his action-packed character. Another factor about this movie that I thought was great, is that it never felt like it was getting slow or boring to watch. The movie kept my attention very well. Even though it is directed at a younger audience, the sheer presence of the wolf (Death) and the consistent action would allow an older audience to stay interested.
Nearing the end of the movie, I was not sure what was going to happen, which kept me attentive; however, inevitably the movie took a radical turn at the end, which made it that much better.
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” represented several different traits such as bravery, care and humility.
Overall, this movie was entertaining and I would watch it again. It is a great movie for a younger audience but can maintain the attention of a more mature crowd. “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” is a very well-made movie that I would recommend to everyone.
