_____
Southerner: Where did you go to college?
Treadway: “First, I went to Wabash Valley College, Mount Carmel Illinois. I got my general education classes there. I went there for two years, then I transferred to USI and originally got my bachelors in accounting. [I] Worked ten years in accounting, went back to USI and got a teaching degree. I also went to American College of Education for my master’s degree.”
Southerner: What are your degrees?
Treadway: “I have three: bachelor’s in accounting, bachelor’s in business education and master’s in education.”
Southerner: Did you always want to be a teacher?
Treadway: “I didn’t always know I wanted to teach. I enjoyed working in accounting for 10 years, but I was looking to do something I felt was more important and made more of a difference. After observing a couple of high school business classes, I knew I wanted to go back to school for business education and then eventually add Family and Consumer Sciences and English to my teaching license. Teaching for the last 12 years has been a blessing.”
Southerner: Do you enjoy teaching English?
Treadway: “Yes, I enjoy teaching it. I have only taught one other year of it, but I am an ardent reader. I have always enjoyed reading and English and communication skills are a top priority in my mind.”
Southerner: Do you have any secret talents?
Treadway: “I can juggle. My mom taught me how to juggle when I was little. She actually used to be a clown for a little while.”
Southerner: Were you the top of your class in your subject?
Treadway: “I enjoyed English in school, and I don’t believe I was top of my class considering there were only 26 of us in my graduating class.”
Southerner: What are some of your hobbies you like to maintain?
Treadway: “Both of my sons played ice hockey, so we like to go to hockey games. I like decorating for all the seasons.”
Southerner: Have you enjoyed working at GSHS for the small time you have been here?
Treadway: “Yes. This is a great school. You guys have a lot of Titan pride in your school. I am happy to be part of the team here.”
Southerner: What are students most surprised to find out about you?
Treadway: “I have no idea … maybe that I lived outside of New York for three years.”
Southerner: What’s your favorite animal?
Treadway: “I have never had a pet, not really an animal person. But, if I had to choose, I suppose a dog.”
Southerner: What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Treadway: “Strawberry, it’s just nice, classic.”
Souterner: Since you are new to GSHS how do you plan to connect with your students?
Treadway: “I try to always be a person they can ask a question to. I am a pretty laid back person, and I will never take a bad day out on students. I hope when they come [to class], they know they can always ask a question. I intend to go to their sporting events.”
Southerner: How would you survive in the Hunger games?
Treadway: “Not very long because I don’t have skills that can help me in that situation.”
Southerner: Do you know all the lyrics to one song?
Treadway: “Yeah, I know a lot of lyrics. Anything Coldplay. That’s my favorite band.”
Southerner: How would you fix the current teacher shortage?
Treadway: “Treat teachers as professionals, trust them and respect their expertise.”
Southerner: What’s the best thing about working at a public school?
Treadway: “Just being able to see kids from all walks of life and all backgrounds and know that you’re spending your day making a difference for someone.”
Southerner: Would you go to high school again? Would you change anything?
Treadway: “Not a chance, no. I would definitely change lots of things.”
Southerner: If you could pick any high school to work at, where would you go?
Treadway: “Gibson Southern, of course.”
Southerner: What’s a Saturday night like for you?
Treadway: “Take out with my husband and watching ‘Lincoln Lawyer.’”
