I joined the newspaper staff my sophomore year with the intent of having a class where I do the bare minimum while having a class with my friends and Mr. Grigsby. I am surprised to say that today, to me, this class has become my definition of the perfect class. A place where I learned, improved upon myself, had fun, exercised my own ideas and had the chance to teach and share some of what I picked up during the past three years. I can say that I am proud to leave behind the beginnings of great social media accounts, please follow The Southerner Online on TikTok, Instagram, Spotify and Twitter. Obviously, while I still have your attention I need to brag about the fact that I may still have the most read article of all time on the website: ‘Clash Royale’: Broken cards and how I’d fix them.
Thank you Jason Sexton for probably upwards of 200 views.
I want to thank anyone who has ever read a story, anybody who has ever had to endure one of my awkward interviews, any superior of mine on the staff who has had to edit a story of mine and any inferior of mine on the staff who has allowed me to help them.
A special thanks goes to Mr. Grigsby and Luke Appman, two of my greatest friends who have made me a better writer, thinker, and individual. Without them I do not think I would have been able to achieve my dream of going to Indiana University. They have done so much for me and I hope that I have been able to offer a fraction of the help they have given me.
I have had an immeasurable amount of fun in the newspaper room: making jokes, coming up with bad headlines, playing games, performing karaoke, taking and giving hate to Mr. Grigsby, and making fun of professionals for using Comic Sans in a serious manner. Newspaper was definitely my favorite class during my high school career and I could not be more glad that I chose to take it.
Later.
