Titan soccer conquers Alices in Sectional matchup
The Titans will see county rival Princeton in their next game
The Gibson Southern boys’ soccer team took on Vincennes Lincoln in the first-round matchup of Sectional action on Tuesday night, earning the win and advancing in the tournament.
“We were pretty confident going into this game as we knew Vincennes Lincoln’s record, and we have faced them multiple times in Sectionals and handled them with ease,” senior Vann Rose said.
In the first half, the Titans started off with a goal from senior Luke Appman.
The Titan’s defense held the Alices scoreless in the first half with freshman Landon Elpers starting at goalie.
Heading into half, the Titans were up on the Alices 1-0. They started off the second half with a goal from Rose and Appman, running up the score 3-0.
“Those goals gave our team room to feel more comfortable and play our game without stressing out as much,” Rose said. “Overall, they helped boost the team’s confidence and morale for sure.”
Rose scored again to put the Titans up 4-0. Freshman Will Redden had an assist, as well as a pair of assists from Rose and one from Appman.
“In the second half, we went into a 4-3-3 formation, which led to more openings for shooting because their defenders were pushed out of their positions,” junior center midfielder Jeffmar Navidad said.
Rose ended the game with a late score to put the Titans up 5-0, which ended up being the final score.
“I thought our team did a great job last night; we played with high intensity all game,” head coach Josh Higgins said. “As the game progressed and our guys settled into a rhythm, we were able to put together one of the best offensive performances of the year for us. Credit to our senior leaders for stepping up and playing great games and leading us to this win.”
The Titans took home the win improving their record to 7-10 on the season. The Titan’s next game will be tonight against the Princeton Tigers.
