Lady Titan c-squad falls to Washington Hatchets
Game marks third loss for girls
The Lady Titan basketball c-squad played its third game of the season against the Washington Hatchets.
The girls were slow at the start. Plagued by turnovers, the girls were unable to gain the momentum needed to keep them on pace against Washington. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Titans trailed by six points.
Freshman Maddie Kautzman scored four points in a row to start the second quarter and narrow the point margin against Washington. Despite the efforts of Kautzman and her teammates, the ladies closed out the half behind the Hatchets, 26 – 14.
The Titans’ defense kept pressure on Washington, giving up few open shots. However, the ladies fell short in the night’s game, losing 41 – 24.
The Titans lacked depth on the bench with no one to sub in and out of the game for one-on-one coaching or a chance for team members to catch their breaths, so they were exhausted by the game’s final buzzer.
“By the end of the game it’s hard to keep up after giving 100% without having any subs,” freshman Ryleigh Williamson said. “But, we have to lock down and push through.”
Despite the loss, the team is not totally disheartened. Instead, they are using this loss to find a way to improve.
“We didn’t play our best game, but we are going to work harder every practice and come out better next game,” Williamson said.
The C-squad head coach, Ron Kahle, knew specifically where the girls need to focus their efforts in coming practices.
“We just need to work on ball handling and get a few more shots to drop,” Ron Kahle said.
The Titans hurt themselves with turnovers and bad shot selections.
“We need to learn from our mistakes and use them to our advantage for the next game,” Kahle said. “This Washington team played really well and have beat some good teams. I’m happy that we competed, played hard and aggressive.”
