Titans runaway with JV road win

The Gibson Southern Titans boys’ junior varsity basketball team gained another on-the-road win of the season on Friday, January 31 against Mount Vernon.
The team battled throughout the game, enduring many ups and downs throughout the match. One of which was the Wildcat’s electric three point game.
“They came out shooting a lot of threes which I expected, but they made a lot more than I thought,” Head Coach Mark Monroe said. “They made us go into a zone pretty quick, after we found out that they could shoot a little bit. That slowed their shooting game down, but not completely.”
After the first quarter, the Titans were down 14-22. At 22 points the rest of the game didn’t look too good for the Titans. A few minor adjustments were made to help the team battle back going into the second quarter.
“We started playing more like ourselves in the second quarter,” said sophomore Mason Yancey. “Once we started getting back on defense is when we took control of the game.”
At the half, Gibson Southern was down with a score of 30-28. The Titans decided to switch up the defense once again switching to a full court press.
“I think our press helped us slow their transition points down a lot,” sophomore Oliver Hamilton said. “They didn’t score too much in the lane after that, which I think helped us gain the lead.”
The Junior Varsity squad ended the third with a 45-36 lead over the Wildcats. The Titans had some electric scoring throughout the game, especially in the third. Ethan Spindler led the way for the Titans once again scoring 23 points. He was followed by sophomore Brayden Malone with 12, Freshman Garret Reid with 10 and Junior Jacob Spindler with 8.
The Junior Varsity team will play their next game on Thursday, February 6 against the Southridge Raiders at home.
