Titans axe Washington in demanding road win

The Gibson Southern junior varsity team expanded into a three game win streak with a win on Tuesday night.
“I thought we brought energy to the game,” head coach Mark Monroe said. “We executed on a few of the plays we planned to like Gonzaga and five-out.”
The junior varsity team ended the first quarter leading 17-15. The Titans were successful in their play by topping the stellar three point shooting performance of the Hatchets, who made 3 three-pointers in the first. The Titans didn’t shoot too bad themselves, going 2-3 from three-point range in the first.
“We were all motivated going into the game to continue our two game win streak,” sophomore Oliver Hamilton said. “From the start of the game, we played pretty fast and tried to run the plays we needed to that would help us win.”
By halftime, Gibson Southern was in the lead 30-21. Coming into the second half, the boys knew that the Hatchets would have a gameplan to combat the scoring performance.
“Usually the second half is where we start to slip up, but we tried to keep up the same level of intensity from the first half,” sophomore Mason Yancey said. “We did it and ended up coming out with a win.”
The Titans had accomplished a 32-50 point lead against the Hatchets by the end of the third. Scoring by Garret Reid with 15 points, he led the way for the Titans. Reid’s scoring was followed by Ethan Spindler with 12 points, Eli Chandler with 11 points, and Jacob Spindler with 10 points.
The Titans finished the game off with a powerful fourth quarter scoring 22 points. They won 54 to 72.
Gibson Southern will play its next game on Tuesday January 28 facing off against the Mount Carmel Aces at home.
