Lady Titans dominate against Vincennes Lincoln

“We were able to keep the Lady Alices to a minimum each quarter. Towards the end of the game we were going crazy on the bench everytime one of us scored, and we even did a couple of waves.”

On November 29, the Gibson Southern Lady Titans hosted Vincennes Lincoln in a non-conference matchup. The Lady Titans defeated the Alices 78-49, raising their record at 4-1 on the season, with their one loss coming from Forest Park in game three. The game was tight throughout the first half. After the first quarter the Lady Titans were trailing only by one, 20-19. As the first half came to a close, the Lady Titans pulled ahead by 11 points, 42-31.

The Lady Titans had to change up their game defensively after the first quarter when they were not expecting a 20 point score from the Lady Alices. Gaining the lead with the Lady Alices only scoring 11 the second quarter gave the Lady Titans an advantage going into the second half.

“We talked about what we need to do to help stop them offensively; we worked almost everyday on defending the ball, keeping the ball out of the lane,” varsity head coach Kyle Brasher said. “This is our first time we have played in two weeks, so we had a little rust in the first quarter. It wasn’t the best after the first quarter when they scored 20 and they averaged 40 a game, and we talked about what we need to fix if we want to win that game.”

To start out the third quarter the Lady Titans went on a run to increase the lead by 25 points, 53-38. For the second half of the game, the Titans only held the Alices to only 18 points, winning the game 78-49.

“Overall we played very well,” senior Alexis Tucker said. “We were able to move the ball up the court quickly after causing a turnover. We were able to keep the Lady Alices to a minimum each quarter. Towards the end of the game we were going crazy on the bench everytime one of us scored, and we even did a couple of waves.”

The Lady Titans went 50% from the field, with 8 of 24 from the three point line, and 22 of 36 from inside the three point line. Tucker and junior Chloey Graham finished the game with 23 points each, senior Ava Weisheit had eight, sophomore Nola Ravellette added seven and sophomore Lauren Adamson put up six points. Junior Ally Malone led in assists with a total of eight.

“I think that we made an adjustment after the first quarter and even after half time on the defensive end, and that is what led our team to win the game,” junior Ally Malone said.

The Lady Titans will play again at North High School against Bedford North Lawrence on Friday at 5 p.m. and have a makeup game against Bishop Chatard on Saturday.
