South Gibson restaurants begin reopening

As Indiana moves to stage two of reopening, Hoosiers are ready to return to their favorite dining destinations.

After the first week in stage two of Governor Holcomb’s plan, restaurants were given the go ahead to start allowing dine-in guests. The government plan states restaurants and bars that serve food may open at 50% capacity with operational limitations. That means the South Gibson favorites will be back in action but with a few changes.

“We’ll only have half capacity so we’re going to promote our outdoor dining because of all our outdoor space,” said Candice Yancey, owner of R’z Cafe and Catering Company in Fort Branch.

R’z opened for dine on Tuesday, May 12, for lunch, operating normal hours and continuing carry-out. Carriage Inn, in Haubstadt, was open for carry-out and started dine in on Tuesday, May 12, where they continued their normal operation hours. Zack’s Diner, in Ft, Branch, was also open for carry-out and started dine-in breakfast, lunch and dinner on Monday, May 11, from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Logan’s Soft Serve, in Haubstadt, was open and running normal hours, Thursday through Sunday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

“We just have to take extra precautions,” said Kelly McClain, owner and manager of Logan’s Soft Serve. “Whether it’s taking time to wipe down and sanitize everything or keeping customers spaced out, we do whatever we can to keep everyone healthy and happy.”

The Log Inn is open for carry-out orders from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. every night, and Haub Steakhouse is serving carry-out from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

“If people aren’t comfortable coming out to eat, continue on with carry-out and be safe and smart,” Yancey said.

Besides half capacity, bar seating will remain closed with no live entertainment, kitchen staff must cover their faces and all Hoosiers are recommended wear face coverings in public settings.
